COVID-19 Top Vaccines

There are currently 12 COVID-19 vaccines in the final phase of clinical trials. The final phase results of all these vaccines are currently awaited. For more information on the regulatory process for vaccines (which is a labyrinth), check out this post here.

After a temporary pause due to a suspected adverse reaction, the AstraZeneca trial was resumed worldwide a couple of weeks ago. Earlier this week, the trials were (finally) resumed in the United States

Earlier this week, a 28-year-old volunteer in the Oxford vaccine trials reported to have been in the placebo arm of the trial died of COVID-19 complications. A careful assessment of the vaccine revealed no safety concerns.

The staff at major hospitals in London have apparently been told to be ready to receive the first batches of the vaccine as early as the week commencing 02 November, as reported by The Sun on Monday, October 26, 2020.

Earlier this week, Moderna announced that they had completed the enrollment of 30,000 participants for the Phase 3 Coronavirus Efficacy study of their vaccine candidate. 

According to Moderna’s CEO, Stephane Bancel, the company should have enough data from its clinical trials by November to know whether its coronavirus vaccine works.

Preliminary results from late-stage Phase 3 clinical trials conducted at the Butantan Insitute in Brazil has earlier this week reported that the two-dose CoronaVac vaccine proved to be safe in the 9,000 volunteers so far. These results are preliminary and the participants will continue to be monitored.
