COVID-19 Top Vaccines

There are currently 12 COVID-19 vaccines in the final phase of clinical trials. The final phase results of all these vaccines are currently awaited. For more information on the regulatory process for vaccines (which is a labyrinth), check out this post here.

Last week, the AstraZeneca vaccine trials were resumed in the United States. 

This week, according to Reuters, AstraZeneca have confirmed the Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency’s (MHRA) accelerated rolling review of their potential COVID-19 vaccine. 

The staff at major hospitals in London have apparently been told to be ready to receive the first batches of the vaccine as early as the week commencing 02 November, as reported by The Sun on Monday, October 26, 2020.

Earlier this week, Moderna announced that they were preparing for the global launch of their COVID-19 vaccine, already having taken in deposits of $1.1 billion from governments globally. They have supply agreements in place in North America, the Middle East, the United States and other regions of the world.

According to the LA Times,  numerous people in China have volunteered to take Sinovac’s experimental COVID-19 vaccine. About 90% of Sinovac’s employees have voluntarily taken the vaccine early.

China’s CanSino Biologics chose middle and lower-income countries to test the safety and efficacy of its experimental COVID-19 vaccine candidate. The vaccine is currently being trialled in Russia, Saudi Arabia, Pakistan and Mexico. According to the South China Morning Post, the last participant in these Phase 3 trials is expected to get the jab at the end of November, before the tests are wrapped up in July next year.

Earlier this week, CNBC confirmed that Novavax has delayed the U.S. vaccine trials of their experimental COVID-19 vaccine candidate to the end of November. Early-stage data of this vaccine produced high levels of antibodies against the novel coronavirus.

Following an unexpected illness in a participant, J&J resumed their Phase 3 clinical trials last week. This week, Reuters confirms that they plan to test this vaccine in children aged 12-18 years as soon as possible.
