COVID-19 Top Vaccines

There are currently 21 COVID-19 vaccines in the final phase of clinical trials, some of which have received regulatory approval for use limited or full use in various countries. For more information on the regulatory process for vaccines (which is a labyrinth), check out this post here.

On January 18, 2021, Brazil approved the Oxford-AstraZeneca coronavirus vaccine for emergency use. The vaccine has also been approved for use in Bahrain

Earlier this week, AstraZeneca has also cut vaccine delivery to the European Union by 60% due to “production problems” at a vaccine factory in Belgium– this cuts the expected delivery of 80 million doses down to 31 million doses.

Earlier today, Moderna has released early laboratory test results which suggest that their COVID-19 vaccine can recognize and fight the new coronavirus variants identified in the United Kingdom and South Africa.

Last week, Brazil announced its estimation of the Sinovac vaccine efficacy at 78%. The vaccine has received emergency use approval for use in Brazil this week.

Earlier this week, Pfizer confirmed that they have finished enrollment of 12 to 15-year-old participants for the COVID-19 vaccine trial, which aims to check the safety and efficacy of this vaccine in the said age group.

Earlier this week, Hungary becomes the first country in the European Union to buy Russia’s Sputnik V coronavirus vaccine. The vaccine has also this week received approval for emergency use in Pakistan.

Trials have also begun that test the efficacy of a single dose of the vaccine – this trial is dubbed “Sputnik Light“.

Bharat Biotech’s vaccine has already received emergency use authorization in India, despite no Phase 3 data being released. They are now hoping to conduct Phase 1 trials of an intranasal COVID-19 vaccine (a nasal spray instead of a jab) in 75 participants.
