Last week, the results of the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine trials were published in The Lancet.
There has also been news that the AstraZeneca vaccine will be combined with the Russian Sputnik V — this new trial is to assess whether the combined vaccines will prove more effective and extend the duration of immunity in vaccine recipients.
News channels in the UK are also expecting the Oxford vaccine to be rolled out in the UK by New Year.

Earlier this week, Moderna announced that the Canadian government has increased its confirmed order commitment by 20 million doses of mRNA-1273, totaling the confirmed order to 40 million doses.
Similarly, the Swiss Federal Government has increased its confirmed order from 4.5 million doses to 7.5 million doses. The U.S. government has also ordered 200 million doses of mRNA-1273.
The phase 3 clinical trials have also been extended to include adolescents aged 12 to 18 years of age.

Sinovac’s CoronaVac is undergoing clinical trials in various parts of the world, including in Brazil. Earlier this week, the Butantan Institute in Brazil confirmed that they expect Sinovac to publish the results from their Phase 3 clinical trials before 15 December.
Results on the vaccine from Indonesia confirm that Sinovac’s vaccine created antibodies among 97% of all that were administered with the vaccine, showing promise of a high efficacy rate.

Last week, the UK was the first country in the world to approve a COVID-19 vaccine — Pfizer and BioNTech’s BNT162b2. The vaccine has since been rolled out across the country. Following allergic reactions in two NHS workers earlier this week, the UK has issued precautionary advice for its use in people with severe allergies.
Pfizer’s vaccine has also been approved in Bahrain and Canada. In the United States, the Pfizer vaccine has been granted Emergency Use Authorization by the FDA for use in individuals 16 years of age and older. The first round of U.S. vaccinations is set to begin on Monday.
